Frustration

The volume goes up in Frustration- "I've told you a million times"- is a common refrain. “You never listen” is another.

Parents sometimes try charts and rewards to deal with Frustration, and end up resenting their role as Family Manager - nobody likes the Boss, and the Boss doesn’t get to have any fun.

Adults find themselves yelling instead of talking. Kids ignore commands and complaints, or take the job of Assistant Manager, bossing siblings and adding to the volume. Teens may withdraw as a defense against the stress and discomfort of what feels like constant critique.

Frustration can contribute to lost sleep, increased use of medication or other substances and steady erosion of family closeness. Kids may suffer with lower self-esteem, and overall family stress increases.

How we will work together:

We will meet as a group, and I will help each person talk about his or her experience of the problem. Then, we will find out what works best for your family, and make a real plan for change.

Families might meet 4-6 times over several months.
